A burglary in progress call taking place on Dorrance Street lead to Bristol Borough police discovering smoke in the residence where the burglary was reported. Officials said Friday evening that two suspects are in police custody.
Officers responding to the call at around 2:30 p.m. to investigate the alleged break-in and noticed smoke calling firefighters to the scene. Heavy smoke was showing from the attic and flames from the second floor bedroom of the home located ย on the quiet street in the heart of the borough, as first responders arrived and quickly knocked down the blaze

Prior to starting their investigation at the residence, police apprehended the burglar on Washington Street in the possession of items from the residence,ย a witness told LevittowNow.com.
Borough police confirmed they had taken two suspects into custody, however, didn’t release the names as of press time.
Officials on scene would not say if the suspects started the fire that erupted soon after police called in first responders from Bristol and surrounding areas.

Borough officers were seen searching the premises surrounding the residence with evidence bags in hand and interviewing neighbors.

Reports of two pets being in the home at the time of the fire could not be confirmed.
Standing outside the residence a smoke alarm could still be heard beeping as officials from code enforcement, emergency management, and council surveyed the scene and shared information.

The home owner, who lives with a child at the residence, was out at the time of the fire arrived about an hour after the flames were put down.
Police are still on scene investigating and borough fire officials have not responded as of press time to requests for information.
