The icy weather brought havoc and damage to the Bristol Township Little Leagueย facilities last Thursday as a water main burst at the league’s building in Croydon on Summit Avenue.

Gloves, cleats, batting helmets, were washed away when the pipe broke last week for the league that serves about 300 kids, league vice president Rich Rosenblatt said. “It’s a mess and it’ll take awhile for the insurance company to make its determination on our claim.”

“All of our equipment was damaged from the water, some of the damaged equipment includes buckets of baseballs and softballs, catching equipment, gloves, and helmets. Our building also has extensive damage,” Bill Findlay, president of the league, said.

The building had two water pipes in the ceiling above the equipment room,ย according to league officials.

The league is working closely with its insurance company, however, there is no guarantee everything that was “destroyed” is covered and officials are concerned they won’t have the equipment needed for opening day.

“We’re just not sure how long the claims process is going to take,” Rosenblatt said.

Organizers for the league that has served the community and its kids for 60 years nowย ย are reaching out to the community. They hope for some help so kids are able to play in their own version of ‘Field of Dreams’ come opening day.

The league supplied about 250 players during the 2013 season with equipment and with families still facing economic challenges they depended on us to have the equipment needed, like batting helmets, for the kids, Rosenblat said.ย “Now we can’t even do that. We’re hoping somebody, somewhere in the community can help support the league and the kids.”

One of the founding principles of ย the BTLLย ย is teaching the kids a sense of community, officials said. They are hoping that can be reciprocated by neighbors for all the ball players in the area, because summer without kids playing baseball, just isn’t summer at all.

Monetary donations can be sent to PO BOX 195, Croydon, PA 19021. If you wish to donate equipment you can contact our League President, Bill Findlay at william.findlay70@gmail.com.
