The 41-year-old was described as a “football nut” by his former Neshaminy coach, Philly.com said.

Media reports indicated that there has been a  mixed reaction in State College to the choice.

Previous to joining Penn State, Franklin was the head coach at Vanderbilt since 2011. He joins the Penn State program after former head coach Bill O’Brien left to take the Houston Texans coach job.
