Soil testing has begun on the site where a developer is hoping to build a Wawa and small drug store in Penndel.

The parking lot property and PECO building on Bellevue Avenue near East Lincoln Highway was fenced off recently as testing of the site began. According to officials and a sign, the developer has the property “under contract.”

Borough Mayor Bob Winkler confirmed the site is being eyed for development of a Wawa and small drug store, both separate from one another.

The mayor told LevittownNow.com the developer has been moving quickly. An eight-foot-tall fence placed around the lot has to be taken down this week and replaced because it was two feet over the ordinance

Several residents said there was confusion in recent weeks after a newspaper published the proposed Wawa included a pharmacy inside.

Wawa operates a 24/7 store on Trenton Road in Middletown about a mile away from the proposed Penndel site.

Officials from Wawa were not available for comment as of press time.
