A Bristol Borough fire station received a incentive award for their work to distributing and installing more than 300 carbon monoxide detectors.
Bristol Fire Company (Station 51), which is based on Wood Street, received $1,000 incentive award from the Bristol Borough Council on December 2.

“Carbon monoxide detectors are essential to household safety,” explained Station 51 Fire Chief Herb Slack. “The award will be used to support this continued initiative; and receiving it is a credit to all of the Bristol residents who reached out for detector installation.”
The award was available to all of the Borough fire companies, but Bristol Fire Company was the first to meet the goal of 300 detectors installed.
Carbon monoxide detectors, as well as smoke alarms, are free for residents of the borough and will be installed by the fire department if requested.

A press release from the fire company says that more than 20,000 Americans visit the emergency room with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and about 400 people die from the odorless, colorless gas.
“To ensure all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order, we stress that residents check them each month because they save lives,” Slack said.
