When Bristol Township’s Emilie United Medthodist Church started in 1863, the Civil War was in full swing and John B. Stetson began producing his now-famous hat in Philadelphia.
This Sunday will mark the anniversary and kick off a year-long celebration of the church, which added the Emilie Christian Day School in 1958.

The community is invited this weekend to participate, the church told LevittownNow.com.
Sunday’s 10 a.m. worship service will feature former Emilie Pastor Paul Dissington as guest speaker, and music will be performed by the Bell Choir, Sanctuary Choir and Praise Band.
A potluck luncheon following the service will take place in the social hall. Current and former students from the school will perform for those eating.

“God has shown his grace to us in many ways. Suffice to say that [the anniversary celebration] will be a very special, meaningful day for us. Your presence in worship and at the lunch that day will truly be history in the making,” the church’s senior pastor, Rev. Andrew Krpata, said.
The Emilie Road house of worship will have guest speakers, a commemorative DVD, pictorial directory and special music events to celebrate the church’s 150 years.

The church was formed when a small Methodist congregation purchased the chapel next to the current building in the 7300 block of New Falls Road. The old chapel still stands near Five Points.
