Update: Tuesday, 12:04 p.m.:

Sgt. Chuck Burns said late Tuesday morning that “speed and alcohol definitely played a factor” in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bristol Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

One person was taken into police custody after running from the scene of a serious car wreck on Bath Road in Bristol Township Monday night.

The nasty-looking crash left a Jeep Wrangler mangled and with two people trapped inside. Firefighters from several companies arrived and extricated the trapped passengers, police said.

Witnesses told LevittownNow.com they spotted police take the driver into custody after 10:40 p.m. Sgt. Chuck Burns confirmed the driver was apprehended in the area of the crash.

“He ran through the section and was tackled running between mine and my neighbors yards,” Laurel Bend resident Jay Miller said about the man taken into custody.

Police said one passenger in the vehicle was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown, and the other to Aria Hospital’s Torresdale campus. There is no word on the condition of the passengers.

As of 7 a.m., online court records do not show any charges filed in relation to the accident.

The crash happened near the police station and left Bath Road closed for several hours.
