So you have a couple of small old TVs, maybe a computer monitor or tower and you’re a Bristol Township resident and your unsure of where to get rid of the electronics.

Well earlier this week, in response to a call by residents, Bristol Township announced the implementation of  a permanent electronic recycling drop off program at the municipal complex at 2501 Bath Road.

The drop off site is  being provided at no cost to residents and small businesses of the Township and offers a safe and convenient way to dispose of items.

“I’ve gotten so many calls from residents looking for a place to dispose of these items,” stated Scott Swichar, Bristol Township’s Recycling Coordinator. “Until now, there were only a few limited  options to dispose of electronics. Since the Township takes its commitment to recycling seriously, it only makes sense to offer this free service to residents.”

The Covered Device Recycling Act which bans certain types of electronics from being dumped at landfills in turn allows the township to safely and properly promote a way for the disposal and recycling of certain  electronic devices.

“Proper recycling is also important because there are millions and millions of devices, they have a limited useful life span, and they contain heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium, and mercury, as well as other materials that do not belong in the normal trash stream, ” Swichar said.

“We are pleased to assist residents in the disposal of electronics in an environmentally friendly way and help keep these items out of landfills,” Township Manager Bill McCauley said.

“The Electronics Drop-Off Recycling Program is provided at no cost to Bristol  Township taxpayers, and, in fact saves the Township money via lower trash disposal fees, making it  both an environmental and fiscal win,” McCauley said.

According to the township’s announcement the drop-off site is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless the township is closed due to a holiday.  Residents  dropping off electronics must  first stop at the Municipal Building’s Administrative Office and show a valid ID or a copy of a utility bill  identifying that they are a business in the Township or resident of Bristol Township. Electronics  may not be left outside at the Municipal Building or collection site when it is closed.

Reverse Logistics Group Americas, Inc has equipped the township with a with a 22-foot storage unit to be used  for the collection of electronic devices at no cost to taxpayers.

The company and the municipal authority have a two year contract where RLGA will manage the compliance and recycling part of the program as spelled out by the Pennsylvania Covered Device Recycling Act.
