Lower Southampton resident Steve Pirritano was named the newest member of the Neshaminy School District Tuesday night.

The married father of two Neshaminy high schoolers said he was looking forward to the “awesome responsibility” that comes with his seat for Region 1 in the district, which covers Lower Southampton and part of Middletown.

“I look forward to working to improve the entire district,” Pirritano said, adding that he hopes the public holds him to the high standards he previously held the board to.

Pirritano, with his wife standing by and his kids watching, was sworn in by District Judge John Waltman near the beginning of the meeting.

Pirritano and Middletown resident Angie Manning were the only two people who applied for the Region 1 seat, which was vacated when Lower Southampton resident Kim Koutsouradis resigned in late September.

Board members commented at how hard their choice was because both candidates were so qualified and cared so much about the district.

Both Pirritano and Manning, a teacher in New Jersey, have been active at board meetings. Pirritano has previously voiced support for the school consolidation project. Manning helped lead a fight to get the consolidation plan on the ballot for the November election.

“A really good man has been seated on this board,” Manning said after Pirritano’s appointment. This summer Manning said she learned that she is an “over comer” and is considering a gain write-in campaign in the upcoming school board election.

Koutsouradis served on the board since 2009 and left due to personal reasons.

Also at the meeting, Board President Ritchie Webb announced that board member Irene Boyle had been absent the past few meetings because of hospitalization. He said she is on the mend and wished her a speedy recovery.
