Beer, beef, raffles and the sweet sound of the Blues. There’s nothing better, right?
The Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) will be holding a fundraising for it’s Students in Concert program, which helps Bristol Township School District students who may not have the resources to participate in music programs.

The afternoon of fun for a worthy cause will kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday at McStew’s Irish Sports Bar, 5316 New Falls Rd,. Levittown. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased online or at the door. Blues group Mike Mettalia and Midnight Shift will be entertaining the crowd while attendees eat and enjoy unlimited beer.
Joe Hochreiter, president of the YOBC, grew up in the Farmbrook section of Levittown and now preaches the benefits of music is young people’s lives, mainly because he has seen how it have impacted his children.
“The Bristol Township School District has been struggling and almost lost their music program a few years ago,” Hochreiter stated as he explained how the Students in Concert program helps kids get instruments and lessons.

Since the program started as a pilot last year, Hochreiter said five young musicians from Bristol Township have been accepted into YOBC ensembles. Overall, the program helped about 45 students get into the music program in their school last year.
The YOBC draws some of the most musically-talented youth from around the area.

The Students in Concert program comes at no cost to the school district and helps enrich the lives of area youth.
Bucks County Commissioners have supported the program with some funding, but fundraising from the community is essential to make the program successful.
