Through teamwork, safety problems at two nearby East Lincoln Highway intersections in Middletown have been fixed.
“TMA Bucks was approached by its member McCafferty Auto Group this past March because McCafferty Hyundai (1106 E. Lincoln Highway) was reporting problems with people traveling westbound on Route 1 and not paying attention to the traffic signal at Lincoln and Highland Park Way,” according to a TMA Bucks press release.

McCafferty Auto Group President Todd Buch said there have been numerous crashes and near-misses at the intersection over the years.
Officials from PennDOT, Middletown, the auto dealership and TMA Bucks met recently and began to work to improve the intersection of East Lincoln Highway and Highland Park Way.
Middletown decided to go forward with improvements at the intersection.

The project, which was reviewed by the township’s traffic engineer, added an additional traffic signal to an existing pole at the corner of McCafferty’s driveway. TMA Bucks said the added signal is intended to get drivers to pay more attention to the light and intersection.
A few hundred feet away, improvements were also made to traffic signals at the intersection of East Lincoln Highway and Flowers Mill Road. Crews added louvers, which shield the view of a signal from approach.

“The TMA always reacts quickly to bring all of the key stakeholders together when our members approach us with a problem or issue, especially one that concerns the safety of people in our community,” TMA Bucks’ recently appointed executive director Bill Brady said in statement.
“Our thanks go out to McCafferty Auto Group for bringing the issue to our attention and to TMA Bucks for facilitating the involvement of all stakeholder groups. This is a great example of business and government working together to solve problems,” Chairman of the Middletown Board of Supervisors Pat Mallon said.
TMA Bucks is a nonprofit group that has oversee the push for the major Route 13 project that is currently underway, the Bucks County High School Seatbelt Safety Challenge, the opening of a compressed natural gas fueling station in Falls Township and many other large and small projects.
