Update: Saturday, 5:17 p.m.:

A fire hydrant exploded out of the ground after a nearby underground water main burst as firefighters were drawing water from it, a fire official said. At least two firefighters suffered injuries when the hydrant exploded.

Fire crews were able to stop the flames before they overtook the entire building.

Sources tell LevittownNow.com that no one was in the building, which was formerly an elementary school, when the fire started at around 1:30 p.m.

Fire crews are at the scene of a two-alarm fire at the Magic Cottage Daycare on Appletree Drive the Levittown section of Bristol Township as of 2 p.m.

Firefighters were called to the former elementary school at at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving numerous calls, according to scanner reports.

Foam and rubber in the ceiling of the building are slowing firefighters’ efforts, scanner reports indicate.

Heavy smoke was seen in photographs pouring from a corner of the building. LevittownNow.com readers reported smoke filling the surrounding Appletree and Red Cedar neighborhood.

Ladder trucks were seen placing firefighters on the roof of the one-story building.
