Local heroes were honored at Tuesday night’s Falls Township Board of Supervisors meeting for saving the life of a 61-year-old man.
David Franklin was taking part in his morning workout routine at LA Fitness on Cabot Boulevard on July 14 when he fell unconscious and went into cardiac arrest.

Three fast-acting civilians rushed over and began chest compressions after they identified that he was in cardiac arrest. An automated external defibrillator (AED) device in the fitness center was brought over and began “literally working as his heart and keeping him alive,” according to the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad.
“The courage of a few bystanders to start CPR and LA Fitness to have an AED gave the paramedics and hospital staff a fighting chance to save this man,” Reif said.
Franklin was indeed fortunate as those ‘bystanders’ turned out to be two registered nurses and a physician, who assisted Franklin in the five minutes it took emergency personnel to arrive.

The three bystanders, two employees of the local LA Fitness and four members of the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad were given certificates honoring their support in saving a life. The members of the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad were also given a ribbon to place on their chests above their badge in recognition of a cardiac arrest save.
“Tonight’s presentation is another one of these events that due to the combined efforts of many people, there’s a person in this room whose life seeks representation.”
