On Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. supporters and members of ย the Falls Township GOP gathered at American Legion Post 834 on Yardely Avenue in Historic Fallsington to celebrate and honor local Republican politics through a back yard pig roast and BBQ.

The event which had the legion’s covered picnic area filled for much of the afternoon was a way of gathering the newly endorsed Republican candidates. The event saw the likes of Kieran Halpin the endorsed candidate for tax collector, Casey Lawrence the endorsed candidate for school board director and Andrew Dell the endorsed candidate for supervisor.

“This event is great because it gets all of us Republicans together,” said Dell. “A lot of them we don’t get to see all the time.”

“The event is all about promoting the local Republican candidates and to really stress the importance of voting,” Dell said passionately. “Ya know most people go out to vote in national elections, but they are nowhere as important as local elections, and in this area voting for local elections hovers around 10-12%.”

Dell who currently is rounding up his four year term on the Falls Township Planning Commission feels that he can change the current atmosphere in Falls Township by running for supervisor.

“With the present board of supervisors in Falls Township there is no checks and balances and no one is stopping that,” he said. “I know I could bring a whole lot of new information to the board and make it more appropriately represented.”

One of the things that irritates Dell most seems to be the public display of Falls Township during the bi-weekly public meetings.

“The thing about those meetings is the supervisors have already met and decided what the outcome will be before the meeting takes place. It is all a little skit they put on for the residents, they just listen to what others have to say and they never change their minds. I have only seen public opinion change things once,” said Dell.

In addition to promoting the local candidates, the pig roast and BBQ saw the appearance of Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick who showed up to especially honor one of Falls Township’s own, Gordon Cumberland.

Cumberland, an important asset to the local community for many years was honored as a ‘Man of the Year’. The ‘Man of the Year’ title will be a new Falls Township GOP tradition.
