Bristol Fire Company 51 Targets Local High School Teens with New Recruitment Program

Bristol Fire Company Station 51 will be reaching out to Bristol Borough High School students in an effort to utilize their energy, bravery, and fearlessness as volunteer firefighters on Monday September 9.

 Firefighters will be presenting at the high school’s Back To School Night, the community about how their children can benefit by becoming a volunteer firefighter.

“We’re looking not only for the able-bodied, but also those with sharp minds and good instincts,” said Fire Chief Herb Slack.  “The students at Bristol Borough High School are incredible people and we think they’ll be interested to learn about how they can become a hero within their own neighborhood.”

The fire company began engaging high school students last year by sending our promotional and informational materials with students report cards, spokesperson Sara Mosqueda-Fernandez, said.

Officials from Bristol 51 will also speak to high school juniors and seniors  at special assembly for fire prevention week on October 9 where firefighters will place a special emphasis on prevention and recruitment.

The fire company has a variety of positions to fit the skills of any volunteer. Volunteering opportunities include firefighting operations, rescue operations, E.M.S. operations, fire police, and support personnel.  No experience is necessary to join Station 51 and training is provided at no cost to you, Mosqueda-Fernandez said.

“The skills one can learn as a volunteer are ones that can translate into any future endeavors,” said Slack.  “Leadership, teamwork, and effective responses are qualities that not only make for a great firefighter, but ones that will also help students stand out in their community and among their peers.”

The Bristol Fire Company is located at 198 Wood St. in Bristol. Station 51 is always seeking community members who are interested in joining the all-volunteer department.
