The site of homeless veterans is one that deals a blow to local pride and a sense of civility. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs has estimated that there are 130,000 -200,000 homeless veterans in the United States every night. Conservatively, the report says, “one out of every three homeless men who is sleeping in a doorway, alley or box in our cities and rural communities has put on a uniform and served this country.”
With that in mind, tomorrow in Levittown a weekend of support, services and help is being offered to the veterans throughout the weekend as the Stand Down 2013 “Veterans Helping Veterans” A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT”will go on September 6, 7 and 8 at the Government Services Building , 7321 New Falls Road Levittown, PA 19055.

Options and help with shelter, meals, employment supports, medical, drug & alcohol treatment information, veterans benefits, barbers and legal advice will be available to veterans over the three-day weekend.
Intake and registration will take place on September 6 and 7 only. Cut off time is Friday, 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 4:00 p.m local officials say.
Note: Only veteran’s spouse and dependent children ages 15 and under may go with a veteran to Stand Down. Proof of age may be required. No exceptions
