Tullytown lost a man who dedicated much of his life to the small borough.
Robert Shellenberger Sr. passed away at the age of 82 early Sunday morning. He formerly served as police officer, mayor, tax collector and many more roles in town.
According to a message from the borough government, Shellenberger died after suffering a “lengthy illness.”

Robert H. Shellenberger, Sr. “Bob”, Husband, Dad, Pop, Pop-pop to many, died Sunday morning, September 1, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was 82 years old. Born in Philadelphia, he was son of the late Charles and Theresa Shellenberger. Bob was an original homeowner in the Kenwood section of Levittown and was an original member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was very dedicated to his family and his community. He served as Mayor of Tullytown for 20 years, was a member of the Tullytown Council, where he also served as President. Bob was a Constable, Police Officer, Fire fighter, Landfill Inspector and Building Inspector . He also served as the Borough Manager and three years ago retired as Tax Collector for Tullytown. Because of this dedication to Tullytown, in his honor Tullytown declared February 2, 1988 as Robert Shellenberger day. Bob was a friend to many in the community and will be sadly missed. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1947-1950.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann. He was the husband of Katherine Shellenberger for the past 36 years. Bob knew he was blessed to have had two beautiful women by his side in one lifetime. He is also survived by 10 children, Theresa Saxton (Thomas), Thomas (Sylvia), Denise Caputo (Michael), James, Joseph (Christine), Robert Jr. (Eileen), Carol Sedgwick (William), Ann Fusaro (Joseph), Charles (Tara), Mary Bevan (Richard), 31 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and Tully, his faithful companion. Bob was also predeceased by 2 brothers, John and Charles.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday, September 6, 2013, 11:00am at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Levittown. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening, 6-9:00pm and Friday morning 9:15-10:15am at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, Pa 19103 or the American Diabetes Association, 1 Plymouth Meeting, Ste 520, Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
