Second Brigade Motorcycle Club Gathers to Support Sidewalks

There was new light shed on the latest Sidewalks for New Falls Road event Saturday, as supporters gathered together under a completely clear sky.

Their gatherings, which usually occur monthly and dampened by rain, are in an effort to educate the public on the need for sidewalks on the Lower Bucks County staple, New Falls Road. The cause about a year old, is near and dear to the Rearick family- who lost their son John when he was hit by a vehicle on the Middletown Township side of New Falls last summer.

In an effort to protect other families against the horror they experienced, the Rearick family has organized the cause Sidewalks Are For Everyone (S.A.F.E.) who’s very first mission is achieving sidewalks for one of the most dangerous roads in the county- New Falls.

S.A.F.E. has organized a walk, dinner out, meet and greets, bike night, an ice cream social with band Heather Heather and now just recently a memorial ride and picnic- all in an effort to gain petition signatures, educate the public and build some weight behind a dire cause.

Saturday’s event, organized by Horton, Road Captain of the Second Brigade Motorcycle Club, began at Brian’s Harley Davidson at 9:30 a.m. with a 30 mile police escorted motorcycle ride through Newtown and Yarley and ending at the Newportville Fire House on New Falls Road.

It was from 12-4 p.m. that various members of the national motorcycle club and the public gathered to listen to good music sang by band, First Time Around and eat great food on the lawn of the local fire house. Adult entry into the picnic cost $20, while children cost $5.

“Middletown and Newtown provided us with a police escort and Yardley helped block the road ways. We made the 30 mile long journey and stopped in the Junewood section to ride by Johnny’s house,” Horton said as he reached to dry his tear filled eyes. “I just want my cousin to know there are people down here thinking about him.”

Horton, has been an integral aspect of the Rearick cause since the beginning. A man usually wearing a denim vest filled with motorcycle patches – although intimidating, has used his huge heart and humble spirit to initiate care in a needed initiative- often standing along side the Rearick family at every event.

S.A.F.E. throughout holding several events has been successful in raising thousands of dollars and receiving thousands of petition signatures (both handwritten and online), however the need for more increases everyday someone walks alongside the overwhelming brush that shoulders New Falls Road.

–Horton and the Second Brigade Motorcycle Club are known throughout the region for displaying their caring attitudes and overwhelming compassion.
