A Levittown-area filmmaker has been working hard to raise $25,000 so he can complete a feature film he has been working on for more than a year.

The film – “Off-Time” – tells the story of a 28-year-old Pennsbury graduate and struggling actor who moved to Los Angles and strikes up a relationship with a 17-year-old high school student. “As much as the two desperately need each other to get by in an incredibly flawed world full of loneliness, there’s just as many factors going against them,” a summary reads.

Through a Kickstarter account, the film project has raised $20,000 (as of noon Wednesday) and still needs to raise $5,000 more. Kickstarter will refund all money if the project does not meet the goal by Thursday at 1:05 p.m.

Those involved with “Off-Time” have been working overtime in recent weeks to drum up support for the project and gather donations.

“This is a great opportunity for people to get involved and support independent filmmakers,” Director Robert Mickles, a Fairless Hills resident, said Tuesday afternoon.

The money raised will mostly go toward sound editing, licensing of music and hiring a composer. Mickles said his local crew can edit the footage themselves.

“We’ve got a pretty good handle on editing and most post production,” the 26-year-old, who has worked in the film production business for about four years, said.

Mickles said the film script came to him through the relative of a co-worker when he worked at Best Buy and filmed from spring of 2012 to summer of 2012. Much of the film was shot locally, additional scenes were filmed in California, Maryland and Canada.

The production was lucky to score lead Adam LaVorgna (7th Heaven); Brian O’Halloran (Clerks I & II), Gerry Bednob (40 Year Old Virgin), Tony Luke Jr. (Invincible) are among the other recognizable faces throughout the film.
