Cops: A Different Kind of Exchange Policy Leads to Arrest

A 25-year-oldย Levittown man took a stroll through a local superstore recently looking for deals on electronics and was arrestedย because he allegedly tried using the good oldย five-finger return policy approach, cops say.

Matthew Gleason was seenย by a Wal-Mart Asset Protection Associate removing ย five ย items from the electronics department and walking them over to the pets departmentย and ย placing them on a shelf there, court documents say.

Gleason then walked backย  over to the electronics department where he selected two Wal-Martย shopping bags and returned toย the area where he left the five items on the shelf and placed them in the bags, police records say.

Gleason then approached the courtesy desk attempting to return the itemsย to the store in return for cash where he was unsuccessfulย I n attempting to complete that transaction. Authorities say, ย he then headed towards the exit of the store through the grocery exit passing all points where payment could be made making no attempt to do so, court records show.

Wal-Mart staff approached Gleason and identified themselves to the suspect who then droppedย the merchandise and took off towards Levittown Parkway and was later found and detained by Tullytown police, ย court records say

Gleason was arraignedย by District Court Judge Robert J. Kelly on felony theft receiving stolen property charges and was set to jail in lieu ofย  10 percent of $50,000.
