The Levittown area was hit fairly severely by Hurricane Sandy this past fall. Many residents without power (some for almost a week) realized how unprepared for a ‘Sandy’ level storm they really were. With the fall of 2014 slowly approaching, Home Depot and local officials gathered Saturday to ensure all residents would be prepared in the event another ‘Sandy’ approaches.
After the storm hit, local law enforcement made it their mission to patrol the Levittown area constantly, being on the lookout for those who may try and release havoc on the neighborhood during a stressful and vulnerable time.

“In the aftermath of Sandy, numerous residents have stated they felt safe,” said Dale Mastrill, a member of the police department and deputy chief at the Tullytown Fire Company. “You can’t put a price on safety, and constant area patrolling is a way we accomplished that.”
In fact, members of the Tullytown Police Department, who were present at the hurricane preparedness seminar, stated they received no criminal mischief calls during the week of power outages. The police department will be able to act even better in the event of a future storm, as their building has now been equipped with emergency generators
Although residents sang the police departments praises, they were in for lots of learning.

Members of the Home Depot team spoke about the proper use of generators and other emergency tools to a small crowd which gathered under a tent inside the Tullytown location. “We can only prepare so much,” said team member, David. “However when we are all notified about an approaching storm- these will be the things we need to pay attention to.”
Tullytown Mayorย David Cutchineal and members of the fire company were on hand for the event.
