Two paramedics were injured early Wednesday morning when they were involved in an accident at the intersection of Route 413 (Veterans Highway) and Trenton Road in Middletown Township.

A crew from the Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad were en-route to a basic lift support in Levittown when an inattentive driver struck their 2010 ambulance, which was driving just below the speed limit and without lights and sirens on, officials said.

All the parties involved in the crash were taken to St. Mary Medical Center with minor injuries.

Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad Chief Hugh Cooperman said he got the call from county dispatchers at about 2 a.m. and immediately rushed to the scene. Thankfully, the two paramedics escaped serious injury and are doing fine, Cooperman said.

The chief said the ambulance, which is one of five the emergency squad uses, suffered heavy front-end damage in the t-bone crash.
