A 38 -year old Trenton man who was stopped by police attempted to elude identification by showing officers fake identification now faces ย a misdemeanor and summary offenses for his deception.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the patrolling officer ran the plates of an unoccupied 2001 Suzuki Esteem parked at the motel. Police discovered the vehicle was registered to a Juan Riviera of Abington, however officials ย noted no drivers license status for the individual was on record.

Minutes later, the vehicle (now with two occupants) made a left hand turn leaving the Country Hotel onto Lincoln Highway, according to court documents, ย the vehicle was traveling 10 mph under the posted speed limit.

The vehicle then changed lanes without a turn signal, at which time, the patrolling officer activated his emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over into a nearby parking lot, according to police.

Police records say, the officer approached the vehicle and asked the driver for his license, registration and insurance. At which time the driver handed the officer a valid registration and insurance card, noting Juan Riviera’s address in Abington. The photographic drivers license handed from the driver over to police, however, listed himself as Rolando Riviera, court records say.

After backup arrived on the scene, officers ย were ย unable to find any record of a Rolando Riviera in the database. Falls Township Police ย informed the man ย this was an “official police investigation” ย he needed to be truthful about his identity,” according to court records.

Police say, the man then stated that Juan Riviera was his brother-in-law, but stated he did not know Juan’s date of birth, or how old he was.

The suspect was instructed to get out of his vehicle, as he did, ย a medical bracelet he had on fell to the ground with the name and date of birth of a Gilberto Ramirez, court documents say.

Investigating ย officers ย observed “numerous, valid photographic identification cards” in the suspects ย wallet. Ramirez then conceded he knowingly lied about his identity in an attempt to conceal the fact that he did not have a valid drivers license, police records say.

Police records indicated, Ramirez had ย a suspended driver’s license. Although, Ramirez advised officers he had received a traffic citation in the past, he stated he has never held a Pennsylvania driver’s license.
