As we sit along the side of parade routes, lounge on blankets watching fireworks, and spend the afternoons grilling with our families, we often forget what Americans have done to maintain the righteous freedom that allows this day to be one of celebration and independence.
Generations past have experienced alarming circumstances, today we have our own battles. However, we are a direct result of many, brave Americans before us, who have fought for liberty and our pursuit of happiness. In their memory, and in celebration of liberation, we will sport the colors of our freedom, and don the flag of our nation.

Residents across Middletown Township gathered today to do just that. They lined the shoulder and grassy areas surrounding Veterans Highway and Trenton Road and smiled at those who marched proudly through, in observance of America’s Birthday.
Numerous local businesses came together to organize a march or float, where they were greeted with waves, flags and thank yous. They even tossed out candy to the parades audience.
Pat Mallon, Middletown Township Supervisor addressed the parade tradition in an address “As we carry on this tradition I hope each of you enjoy all the hard work and effort put forth by our many volunteers and sponsors. Our goal again this year is to continue to provide an opportunity for you, our residents, to participate in an event which honors the founding of our country while at the same time showcasing many of the wonderful aspects of living in Middletown.”

Organized musical groups gave soundtrack to the event. Emergency vehicles sounded sirens as personnel waved from their windows. Local politicians greeted spectators by name. The event felt homey, comforting, an opportunity for local residents to sit among those they knew, and wave to varying members across the community spectrum, all in celebration of the country they love.
