Cops: Foot Tracks of Justice Catch up to Burglar

A 21- year-old Langhorne man is in Bucks County jail ย after he robbed a home tracking through backyards with soaked grass leading investigators right to his home, according to Middletown Township Police.

The incident began when a homeowner on the 200 block of Berrick Drive in Langhorne woke up at 5:00 ย a.m. ย discovering a window in his kitchen had been cut open a 50-inch Samsung plasma television was missing and an upstairs bedroom had been ransacked, police say.

Police, while searching residence for additional evidence of the intruders presence, came across footprints in the dew of the grass in the back of the Langhorne home, court records say.

Officers followed the footprints to the back of a home located on the 200 block of Berrick Drive, where they observed a set of foot prints on the deck of the home and leading into it, court records say. ย According to Police, they made contact with the homeowner who let them into the home for a search of the premises when officers observed a pair of black dew soaked sneakers at the deck entrance to the home.

Police discovered the soaked “steppers” belonged to Tyler Scannell, who lived at that address. Scannell admitted to police that he was in the home of Berrick Dr. then leading them to a shed in the back of his residence where officials found the stolen 50 inch ย plasma television, according to court records.

The suspect told police he tried to break into another home on the 200 block of Berrick Dr. through a kitchen window but was unsuccessful, court records says. Police spoke with a woman who is the house sitting for the owner. She told officers on the scene was sleeping in the residence overnight. Officers noted several windows of the home had screen windows that were cut and ripped, court records say.

Scannell was slapped with two felonies for ย burglary and attempted burglary and three related misdemeanors. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 27 in front of District Court Judge John J. Kelly Jr. He is currently in Bucks County Jail in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
