BOOM! BOOM! Military Training with Mortars

There is chance you could hear some explosions this weekend.

Members of the armed forced will be conducting mortar training training at Fort Dix training range in New Jersey.

The 113th Infantry Regiment and 1st Squadron, 102nd Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition) will be training Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Both group of troops are New Jersey-based Army National Guard units, according to military officials.

“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. Residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking due to the training. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions,” according from a statement from the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst press office.

The sound of explosions from training exercises at the base is often heard by residents in the Levittown area despite the base being about 25 miles away.
