Tropical Storm Andrea to Bring Heavy Rain to Area

The remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea are expected to bring heavy rain to Lower Bucks County starting Thursday night and could cause flooding issues along local waterways, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, N.J. issued a flash flood watch that goes into effect Thursday night and runs until late Friday night.

“Widespread rainfall amounts of two to four inches are expected,” according to a a presentation made available Thursday evening by NWS meteorologist Gary Szatkowski. The briefing package added, “Rainfall amounts in this range will produce flash flooding, as well as potential river flooding.”

The Neshaminy Creek is predicted by the weather service as nearing flood stage if the storm bring the predicted rainfall amounts. The Delaware River is not expected to experience major flooding.

  • Thursday Night: Showers, mainly after 8pm. Low around 62. East wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

  • Friday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 73. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

  • Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then showers likely. Low around 65. East wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

  • Saturday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

  • Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
