The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors approved the approximately $852,000 purchase a new Motorola radio system at Monday night’s meeting.
Officials said the new 700 MHz radio system will be outfitted on all public safety and township vehicles. The total number of radios purchased is 139, Township Manager Stephanie Teoli told LevittownNow.com.

The new radio communications equipment will be paid for through a $212,000 casino impact grant from the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority. The remaining $640,000 will be paid for through a 7-year bond from the county, Teoli said. The bond has a 1.5 percent interest rate.
The new radio’s will replace an outdated 500 MHz system that the township currently uses, Emergency Management Coordinator and Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.
New radio units will vary in model and featured depending on department use. Some of the models will feature GPS tracking, McGuire said.

Police and fire supervisors will be given radios that are multi-band units, which means they can communicate with officials from the Neshaminy School District and private business that use similar radio systems.
The upgrade in technology, which will place all emergency personnel on one radio band, is mandated by the FCC and intended to create better communication between governmental agencies, McGuire said.
