Military officials said units will be conducting mortar and artillery-firing training this weekend at the ranges at Fort Dix in New Jersey
The weapons training will be held Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., base officials said. The explosions can often be heard from around the Levittown area.

“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. Residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking due to the training. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions,” according from a statement from the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst press office.
The 1st Squadron, 102nd Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition); New Jersey Army National Guard from Westfield, N.J.; and the Golf Battery 3rd Battalion, 13th Marine Regiment based out of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst are using the range this weekend.
Similar training took place at the base in early April.
