Explosions May Be Heard This Weekend

You might hear booms around Levittown this weekend.

Members of the National Guard and a Marine Corps reserve unit will be taking part in mortar-firing training at the Fort Dix training ranges Saturday and Sunday, base officials said.

When the military conducted similar drills in March, residents from around the Levittown area were able to hear the blasts.

Base officials tell LevittownNow.com that the mortar training is set to take place between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. As a result of these units performing their important training, residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions,” a statement released to the media read.
