Caught on Candid Camera: Police Arrest Suspect in Croydon Burglary

Skulking around two Bristol Township residences and at one point hiding under a porch, a 31-year-old Croydon man was arrested by authorities on burglary and theft chargesย as a result of ย a high-tech video security system at one of the Croydon residences ย he robbed, court documents said.

The tale of caught by candid camera starts when ย two separate home owners, one on the 1900 block of Colonial Drive, and the other, located just a short distance away, at the 2100 ย block of Heritage Court reported aย break-ins, ย police said.

Police investigation revealed at the Colonial Drive location the residence’s alarm system was activated at 2:54 p.m; a window of the home was broken and opened slightly, according to theย affidavitย of probable cause.

Police watched a ย securityย surveillanceย video provided by homeowner where the defendant is observed near the front door of the property, court documents said.

At the 2100 Heritage Courtย  location, the homes alarm system was activated by the basements motion detector sensor at 3:12 p.m. police said.

The homeowner told police his basement window and back door were opened and pieces of ย jewelry, valuable coins, and an undetermined amount of cash was missing from the homes master bedroom, police said.

Subsequently, police responded by going to the home of John J. Boyd in Croydon where police spoke to the man in the presence of his family where he ย “admitted to breaking into” ย the 2131 Heritage Dr. residence and provided police with the stolen items he still had in his possession, court documents said.

Boyd was brought to police headquarters where he provided ย officials in detail ย with how he broke into the residence and burglarized it.

Boyd provided a written statement to police and was then charged two counts ofย burglary, and one count of receiving stolen property and other related charges.

According to online court documents, Bensalem police arrested Boyd on March 30 for retail theft and is awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled for May 23.

He is currently being held at Buck County Jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 8 in front of ย Bristol District Court Judge Frank ย W. Peranteau Sr.
