Fire Closes Part of West Lincoln Highway

The Red Cross responded Wednesday evening to assist the family displaced by the fire, according to spokewoman Sara Smith.

Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said a couple lived in the home.

A house fire in the 1100 block of West Lincoln Highway in Middletown Township closed part of the busy roadway Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews were dispatched to a house, nestled in a grove of trees just off the railroad tracks, at around 4 p.m. and found heavy fire coming from the back of the house, according to emergency reports. Officials said the house is now uninhabitable.

The fire started inside a bedroom, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said. The cause is undermined.

The first arriving police officer used a portable extinguisher to try to quell the flames, but it was not successful, McGuire told LevittownNow.com.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, the fire marshal said.

West Lincoln Highway heading toward Bensalem was closed while fire truck sat parked in the roadway. Traffic was backed up into Penndel Borough until firefighters cleared the scene.
