Amtrak Spokesperson Craig Schulz said via E-mail, in response to DiGuiseppe’s remarks that, “trespasser incidents are ย a major concern for us here at Amtrak.ย As such, we do a ย tremendous amount of work with ย and organization called Operation Lifesaver…we are always working to educate the public about how to stay safe on railroad property.”
Bristol Borough Councilman Patrick Sabatini said, “I feel for the family and their loss. ย It’s really troubling to hear this, ย but I see Council President DiGuiseppe’s point, if you’re going to have stairs there, secure them at least. In fact what I also don’t understand is why have a fence only on one side of tracks, why didn’t they go on the Prospect Street side and do that side too?”
Sabatini who is the Councilman for the north ward, ย where the ย incident took place is frustrated by the lack of safety for the children of hisย constituent’sย saying the council has been in a long drawn out struggle with Amtrak about this issue.
