According to scanner reports and several different neighbors, police engaged in a standoff with a barricaded subject, believed to be a “distraught” man, at the house for an extended period of time before police radioed for a ambulance crews to transport aย  subject from the house with a gunshot wound to the chest. The subject suffered a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound just before 9 p.m., according to scanner reports.

“The ambulance guys took someone away from the house on a gurney,” the next-door neighbor of the house where the incident took place told LevittownNow.com.

The neighbor, who was outside walking his dog after all the commotion had ended, said police asked him to remain inside his house and could be heard using a loudspeaker to ask the man to come out.

As the ambulance with the victim headed to St. Mary Medical Center, it was flanked by at least four police cruisers. Middletown Township police cars were dispatched to help close roads so the EMS truck could get to the hospital quickly.

Officials closed Coventry Road between Bedford and North Oxford Valley roads during the reported standoff.
