Saturday the first-ever Mentored Youth and Trout Day and Contest will take place at Levittown Lake, as well 11 other locations throughout the Commonwealth.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), young anglers and their mentors can head to Levittown Lake to take part in the event that comes a weekend before the regional opening day.

“The Commission is piloting the Mentored Youth Trout Day as part of its goal to keep young anglers and their families fishing,” said PFBC Executive Director John Arway. “The pilot program gives us the opportunity to gauge interest and to determine the feasibility of expanding the program across the state.”
During the pilot program children under the act of 16 must register with the PFBC before joining a mentor, who has the proper credentials to fish in the commonwealth.

“The waters will be stocked to ensure a plentiful supply of fish to catch for the youth day and the regular season to follow,” said Laurel Anders, PFBC director of boating and outreach.
“Registration is free and youth will have the opportunity to receive a free one-year subscription to the Pennsylvania League of Angling Youth (PLAY) newsletter,” added Anders

To help promote the special youth day, Cabela’s has also partnered with the PFBC to present a Mentored Youth Trout Day Contest in which a number of tagged trout will be released in participating waters. Any angler who catches one of these fish can turn the tag in for a $20 Cabela’s gift card and a Zebco fishing rod and reel combo.
Fishing starts at 8 a.m and goes to 7;30 p.m.
