Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Set for Saturday


Rain or shine, the 25th annual Bucks County St. Patrick’s  Day Parade will march Saturday morning, organizers say. St. Patrick's Day Parade

Set to start at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joesph The Worker Catholic Church of off New Falls Rd. in Falls, thousands are expected to turnout along the parade route which ends at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Bristol Township.

The celebration of Irish-American heritage will include, marching bands, pipe bands Irish dancers, veterans,  emergency responders, local businesses, and charitable organizations parade officials say.

Levittown’s own  Betty Brooks, known as the ‘Levittown Legend,’  will be  the processional’s Grand Marshal. Her dedication to performing volunteer work in the community ties in with the theme of this years celebration “Cheers to 25 Years.’  citing the work of  past parade volunteers who have helped make the event become an important part of   Bucks County’s  fabric.

Brooks chosen for her “selfless spirit of service and devotion to her community” has been a volunteer at St. Joesph the Worker Church for a number of years and has been a tireless  in her work with charitable causes such as the Bucks County Leukemia Foundation.

Parade organizers are also hopeful they will be able to raise awareness in the Irish-American community about  Tay-Sachs Disease.

According to the parade committee, Irish Americans have a 1 in 50 chance of carrying the recessive trait for the  deadly genetic disease and encourages all who have Irish decent  are encouraged  to contact the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association of Delaware Valley at 215-887-0877 or info@tay-sachs.org for more information.
