In the wake of Thursday’s airstrikes on targets in Syria, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican from Middletown Township, said the U.S. “must hold the Iranian regime accountable.”
The attack authorized by President Joe Biden used two U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles to launch seven missiles at a number of facilities in Syria. The facilities were said by American military officials to have been used by Iranian-backed militia groups who were involved in attacks on American interests, according to CNN.

Below is Fitzpatrick’s statement:
“I thank President Biden and our service members for responding to the recent attacks on U.S. and coalition targets. Responses like this are a necessary deterrent and remind Iran, its proxies, and our adversaries around the world that attacks on U.S. interests will not be tolerated. We must hold the Iranian regime accountable for its dangerous and provocative actions that threaten Israel, the Middle East, and the entire world.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters congressional leaders were briefed in advance of the strikes and there was an additional briefing for members and staff on Friday.
The Associated Press reported that not all Democrats were onboard with Biden’s decision. Several lawmakers from Biden’s party raised concern the strikes needed congressional approval.

Psaki, according to a White House press pool report, noted that the strikes were legal and the U.S. “acted pursuant to itโs right to self defense.”
When former President Donald Trump authorized a retaliatory strike on Syrian military facilities in 2017, Fitzpatrick was supportive of that attack.
