The wife of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden made a stop in Lower Bucks County Monday evening and urged women to get out and vote for her husband.
Dr. Jill Biden’s visit to Snipes Farm and Education Center in Falls Township was part of the campaign’s drive to get women to vote for the Democratic ticket in Bucks County, a place where polling has shown President Donald Trump lagging behind her husband, the former vice president.
Biden, who has been traveling around the country campaigning, told the crowd she hears from voters that they want a path to recover from the pandemic and they want leaders that are kind and live up to their standards. She said people are hoping for better.
The college professor raised in Willow Grove, Montgomery County told the story of how she became a mother after she began dating her husband following a horrific crash that claimed the life of his first wife, his daughter, and injured his two sons.
“How do you make a broken family whole?” she asked.
“The same way to make a nation whole. With love and understanding and with small acts of kindness and bravery,” she said.
She said women and mothers know that all too well, especially while they are helping care for their families and working essential jobs.
“You still show up,” she said.
Biden said her career politician husband knows what it takes and he has faith in the American people.
“Joe will be a president for all Americans. Joe has a plan to end this pandemic, to rebuilt and reimagine a future that is better than ever,” she said.
The former second lady said women will have a major role in deciding what happens.
“One vote. Don’t think your vote won’t matter,” she said, pointing to how close the 2016 election was in Pennsylvania.
“The women are going to pull us through!” she exclaimed.
Before Biden came on stage, Democratic congressional candidate Christina Finello told the crowd she was “fired up” and pointed to all the Democratic women who are running locally and have already won seats in government.
“The path to flipping the White House and the state house is right here in this district,” she said.
Finello, a Ivyland Borough resident who was raised in Bristol, promised to preserve health care for those with preexisting conditions and make sure women have the right to chose.
The candidate said she plans to join the Biden-Harris ticket in winning this November.
She urged everyone, including suburban moms, to vote for her and fellow Democrats.
Marlene Katz, a Democrat running for state representative in Central Bucks County; Democratic State Sen. Maria Collett, who represents part of Bucks and Montgomery counties; and Nina Ahmad, the Democrat running for Pennsylvania Auditor General, all spoke leading up to Biden’s appearance.
Biden flew into Trenton-Mercer Airport and then flew to a rally not far from Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport following her stop in Falls Township.
Biden called Snipes Farm beautiful as she looked around at the property, which was decked out for fall.
