Saturday marked the open day of trout season in southeastern Pennsylvania. Levittown Lake was swarmed with fisherman hoping to catch a brag-worthy fish.
Steady rain fell from the sky and seemed to keep lots of folks away from fishing, but to say that the number of fishermen was small would be a mistake. A few boats on the lake combined with people anglers around the body of water in Tullytown meant the number of people fishing was well into the 40s.

One group of the fishers has been coming to Levittown Lake on the opening day of trout season since 1981. John and Frank, along with a group of friends live in the area, have made the lake a part of their yearly trout tradition.
Since 1992, the group has kept track of who gets the most noteworthy fish wish a plaque. Each year, another name gets added to the plaque. John has the most entries with two. Frank will likely take the prize this year with his 21.5 inch palomino trout.
Although the weather wan’t perfect, it couldn’t be enough to keep John and his friends away. Other than briefly mentioning the rain in conversation, it would be impossible to know it was raining by looking at the men.

Kevin Jones came to Levittown Lake from his home in Hulmeville and has come to the lake for the past two years with a friend. Although he hadn’t caught anything by about 10 a.m., he planned on staying out for a little longer to see what he could catch.
