At 143 South Woodbourne Road, a sandwich and pizza shop offers both classic staples and imaginative new creations. Meet Hubba Hubba Hoagies, a locally-owned establishment led by Kelly Vanderwende and her family, proving that food crafted with care and a touch of love stands a class apart.
The Middletown Township shop’s menu offers an array of options: from hoagies with freshly-sliced meats, wraps, cold and hot sandwiches to burgers, cheesesteaks, fresh salads, wings, and pizzas. If a customer wants it, Hubba Hubba Hoagies offers hoagies on a pickle and also has gluten free rolls as well.
It’s no surprise that some menu items have roots in customer suggestions.

“The Hubba Hubba Hoagie is our signature and is popular,” said Kelly, the operator of the business. “People also like our ‘Wing Wednesday,’ with wings priced at a dollar a piece. We make our own wing sauces.”
In an area dominated by chain eateries, Hubba Hubba Hoagies’ commitment to freshness and quality shines.
“We do a little bit of everything. Fresh salads, cheesesteaks. Everything is fresh. We have our own potato salad, pasta salad, and coleslaw,” Kelly said.

Kelly’s years of experience in the food industry served as the foundation for Hubba Hubba Hoagies.
Opening in 2021, the shop went in the storefront previously occupied by Franco’s Pizzeria and Chicken Holiday, bringing a fresh vibe to the location.
The family behind the business has a clear vision: to establish a business that prioritized customers, quality, and affordable prices.

Apart from the eat-in and take-out options, Hubba Hubba Hoagies is also adept at catering. They’ve managed dinners, business events, and family gatherings, even serving items not listed on the regular menu.

For those keen on picking up some deli meats, the shop provides fresh-sliced deli meats for sale. But perhaps what sets Hubba Hubba Hoagies apart the most is its community-centric approach.

On any given afternoon, it’s not unusual to find Kelly and her son, Quin, at the grill, striking up friendly conversations with customers, many of whom are regulars.
“We are family run and we’re not a big chain. We’re about the food. Someone once said to me, ‘you put a little love in the food’,” Kelly shared, adding the philosophy that makes Hubba Hubba Hoagies more than just a sandwich shop.

For Kelly and her family, it’s clear: “We want to get our name out there and serve the customers.”
And with their dedication to quality, community, and innovation, they are doing just that.
