Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate edged down one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.1% in June.

The drop was driven by record highs in both the civilian labor force and total employment, according to preliminary figures released by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
The state’s rate remained one-tenth of a percentage point lower than the national unemployment rate, which also decreased by a tenth of a point over the month to 4.2%.
Compared to June 2025, Pennsylvania’s jobless rate fell by two-tenths of a percentage point from 4.3%. By contrast, the U.S. unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a point over the same 12-month span.

Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force, measuring residents who are employed or actively seeking work, grew by 17,000 people over the month to reach an all-time high of 6,643,000 in June.
Total employment expanded to a record level, while the number of unemployed residents decreased by 6,000 over the month.

Total nonfarm positions across the state added 1,000 jobs in June, reaching a record peak of 6,209,600.
Employment increased in seven of the state’s 11 industry supersectors. Leisure and hospitality registered the largest monthly volume gain, whereas professional and business services saw the sharpest drop. The education and health services sector expanded to a record level.
Over the past year, nonfarm job counts surged by 34,500, with six of the 11 supersectors marking annual increases.

Education and health services led all annual gains, expanding by 28,400 positions since last June.
State officials said all reported figures are seasonally adjusted to allow for valid month-to-month comparisons.
The June 2026 metrics remain preliminary and are subject to future revisions.
