A 5-year-old boy riding an e-bicycle was hospitalized Sunday evening after being struck by a sedan outside a local high school.

Bristol Township police said they responded to the 1000 block of Green Lane at 6:39 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on an e-bicycle.
According to a preliminary investigation by officers, a 2022 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Green Lane toward Mill Creek Road. The 5-year-old boy was riding a Strike Throne e-bicycle eastward out of the Harry S. Truman High School parking lot when he entered the roadway and was struck by the front passenger-side corner of the Camry.
The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad transported the 5-year-old to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township for treatment, police said.

The boy was later airlifted by helicopter to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, police said.
The severity of the child’s injuries was not immediately known, according to police.

Bristol Township Fire Police and the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad assisted police at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.

According to PennDOT, e-bikes in Pennsylvania are only to be used by people 16 years or older. E-bikes are also not permitted to go above 20 mph and a light must be used at night.
