The utility company announced that the upgrades, which include the installation of new transformers and underground cabling, are expected to start June 8 and conclude by Oct. 1.

The project is designed to prevent outages and improve restoration times, according to PECO.

A portion of the project involves replacing existing underground transformers with pad-mount units, per a notice to customers.

The company said that pad-mount transformers are safer and more efficient to maintain than the older underground equipment they are replacing.

Construction will take place along Woodbourne Road, White Swan Way, Pine Glen Road, Katie Drive, Hanes Court, Joan Trail, Mill Pond Place, Clear Creek Road, Swift Road, and Hidden Spring Lane.

During the project, residents should expect to see a mix of PECO employees and contractors using machinery to install new conduit and cabling.

The company stated that the new pad-mount transformers will be placed on residential property as close as possible to the current equipment.

PECO officials said they will contact any property owners directly if a transformer is slated for installation on their land.

The utility company said it has developed a plan to minimize disruptions, but officials warned temporary power outages may be needed to complete the work safely.

“We will work with local residents to ensure they are informed in advance of our activities and any planned interruptions,” the company said to customers.

PECO said it is committed to restoring any yards or streets impacted by the construction to their original condition once the work is finished.

Residents are encouraged to make sure their contact information on their PECO account is updated with the utility to receive timely outage notifications.
