Bristol Borough: Raising the Bar announced the project recently.

The project gives citizens, business owners, and local organizations the chance to contribute their personal histories to a professional, hardbound volume that is being compiled.

For a $125 fee, participants can secure a page in what organizers describe as a “living archive” of the community.

Bill Pezza, of Bristol Borough: Raising the Bar, said the project is designed to note the contributions of ordinary residents who have shaped the town’s identity.

“This is a town of everyday people, all of whom contributed to the fabric that we are,” Pezza said. “This is an opportunity for everyone and anyone to submit their 500 words and be part of this book.”

The foundation has set specific guidelines for the entries: participants may submit 500 words accompanied by a photograph, or 600 words if they choose not to include an image. The foundation is using a submission form designed to prevent formatting and word-count errors.

“Once you start, it won’t let you submit it incorrectly,” Pezza said. “Then we ship it off to a proofreader. We put it together.”

Pezza added, “It’s going to be in a beautiful, hardbound book.”

The foundation anticipates approximately 200 participants, which would result in a book being roughly 400 pages.

Each $125 contribution includes one copy of the finished book, with additional copies available for $20.

In addition to preserving local history, the project serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit group designed to boost the borough.

Proceeds will support both the organization’s community-boosting initiatives and its standard operating costs.

“We have to raise money not only for the good things we do, but for our normal operating expenses,” Pezza said.

Organizers said that they are available to assist anyone who may find the digital submission process daunting.

“We don’t want any family to say we’re not going to do it because it seems too complicated,” Pezza said. “We’re going to be here to help you.”
