An aerial ballet took place in the skies above Levittown Tuesday as PECO contractors worked on overhead transmission lines.

Starting in the morning hours, an MD 500 helicopter from contractor High Voltage Aviation performed work on the high-voltage lines that run between the PECO substation on Edgely Road in Bristol Township and Levittown Lake in Tullytown Borough.

At points, the helicopter ferried a worker up to the transmission lines that move voltage through the area.
Flight data showed the helicopter was less than 250 feet from the ground at times.

A small staging area was set up in the parking lot of Levittown Lake. The chopper landed and picked up supplies as part of the project.
By late afternoon, an Aérospatiale AS355F2 Écureuil 2 helicopter owned by JBD Enterprises Inc. joined the fun and was performing flights over the utility lines.

Matt Rankin, a PECO spokesperson, said the helicopters were assisting with the overhead transmission line work in the Levittown area.
“This work is expected to be complete tomorrow,” Rankin said.
The low-flying choppers drew attention on the ground and on social media where local residents posted photos and video of the helicopters.

It is not uncommon for low-flying helicopters to perform utility and rail inspections over the area. Residents rarely receive an early heads up to the activity.
On Sunday, the Aérospatiale AS355F2 Écureuil 2 was spotted flying lower in parts of Bensalem Township and Middletown Township.
