There is a growing chance that a low-pressure system will bring snow to the area from Sunday into Monday.

The National Weather Service’s regional forecast office said Friday morning that the probability of the region seeing at least 2 inches of snow has increased to between 60 percent and 80 percent.

Meteorologists are currently monitoring two primary tracks for the storm, according to the National Weather Service.

In the first scenario, a track closer to the coastline would result in more severe impacts, including higher winds, more coastal flooding, and a mix of snow and wintry precipitation.

Under the second scenario, the system would pass farther to the southeast. That tract would likely result in lighter wintry precipitation, primarily snow, while reducing the risk of widespread tidal flooding and high winds.

The National Weather Service said the overall impact of the storm remains dependent on which of these two tracks the system ultimately takes.
