Bristol Township police are investigating a possible attempted burglary that triggered a large law enforcement response in the township’s Croydon section Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of State Road around 9:30 a.m. after a report of a burglary in progress.
An 11-year-old boy, who was home alone at the time, heard the sound of breaking glass, police said.
According to police, the child first called his father, who instructed him to dial 9-1-1.

Responding officers arrived at the scene within two minutes and conducted a search of the home and yard, police said.
While officers confirmed a window had been smashed, they found the boy was safe and did not locate a suspect inside the residence, police said.

The response included the use of a police K-9 unit, which failed to pick up a scent. Additionally, officers examined footprints in the snow but were unable to determine if they were linked to a potential intruder or just from recent activity from the family.
Sgt. Jason Mancuso said the incident is being treated as an attempted burglary, but investigators are considering alternative causes for the damage.
Mancuso noted the window could have been shattered by the extreme cold temperatures or falling ice, but investigators are looking at all options.

Officers cleared the home Monday morning after confirming it was safe.
