Last week, Bristol Borough Council approved an ordinance prohibiting wild and exotic animals at borough-sponsored and permitted events.
Councilwoman Lorraine Cullen said the ordinance was needed after safety concerns have been raised by residents and officials about various animals, including a boa constrictor, being brought by the public to events.
“I was told that somebody was bringing a boa constrictor to our events, and the woman’s very frightened of snakes,” Cullen said during Monday’s council meeting. “There are some other animals also that people bring.”

“I think it could be dangerous to some of the people of our town. That’s why I wanted this ordinance put in,” she added.
The council first discussed the measure last fall, and the body moved to put in new ordinance in place in recent weeks.

Bristol Borough already has several animal-related ordinances on record, including that it is unlawful to keep “pigs, hogs or swine at any place within.”
The riverfront municipality also has ordinances related to the welfare of pets and related to long periods of noise that are deemed “detrimental to the physical, mental and social well-being of the people.”
In addition to the animal ordinance, the council approved an ordinance amending to allow 15-minute parking in front of Bristol Wellness Pharmacy located at 247 Mill Street.

Also, council approved a three-year audit proposal from Lopez, Teodosio, and Larkin at $16,000 per year to audit the borough’s 2025 financial records and file the required Pennsylvanian Department of Community and Economic Development report. The local auditing firm previously worked with the borough and currently audits nearby municipalities.
