Cate's Spotlight: Historic Bristol Day Car Show Zooms In

The 14th Annual HBD Car Show at the 49th Historic Bristol Day, sponsored by the Bristol Cultural & Historical Foundation [BCHF] on Saturday, October 18^th will be a “step back in time” kind of day with statement cars and gleaming chrome, family fun, awesome eats, and hopefully, near perfect weather in historic Bristol on the Delaware for this renowned car enthusiast event.

Everyone remembers his or her first love, but for some, it wasn’t a person, it was a car.

Wow! Look at that car!

Vintage automobiles and special interest vehicles have the power to draw classic car connoisseurs who admire the evolution of mechanics, design, and efficiency that have given the world some of its most gratifying four-wheeled art. This car show is annually attended by automobile aficionados of all ages who have one thing in common: they love cars. That’s the only requirement.

With all the somewhat similar design of today’s cars, the hard-bodied, box-type cars of yesteryear emit a certain aura of glamour and a luster of sophistication, further stoking a desire for cars in general.
Car shows are perfect settings to recall fond old memories and make some new ones.

So, you REALLY love cars……that’s the only requirement and the best reason ever that you really AUTO save this date for the 14th Annual HBD Car Show.

Come experience more of what historic Bristol on the Delaware has to offer; view the many cars, see old friends, and meet some car enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Just what is the big deal about car shows, and what is so very great about them? The answer is cars, cars, and more cars, vibrant celebrations of automotive culture. This car show brings home a unique love affair with wheels…. and 19007 is GEARING up!

The HBD Car Show will be held at 450 Beaver Street at the Snyder-Girotti School on the school asphalt parking lot from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM [with car registration at the door beginning at 9:00 AM] followed by a car parade/ cruise through historic Bristol Borough.

The show features a diverse collection of American and foreign antiques and classics, as well as cars spanning multiple decades and generations, including newer Corvettes, Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, Challengers, T-birds, and exotics and luxury models. These cars, which are not mainstream, are also part of this repertoire.
This experience will truly put you in the FAST LANE.

Car enthusiast cousins, Mark Louis Gesualdi and his co-chair, Christopher John Gesualdi have once again fervently PUT THE PEDAL TO THE METAL, preparing for this event. Both are dedicated Corvette guys, members of the NCRS [National Corvette Restorer Society]. The NCRS mission is to recognize and promote original examples of Corvettes and to set standards for meticulous and retentive attention to detail in the restoration of Corvettes to the precise way they exited the factory years ago. Judging at these NCRS events is serious business and quite intense.

Mark and Chris deviate from this a tad, making the HBD Car Show inclusive of all makes and having trophies for the most part determined by show attendees and only the Best of Show trophy is judged.
The “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” trophies for antiques and classics are made by Frank Martino of Tullytown Plastics. Attendees have the opportunity to vote on their choice of two favorite cars, one vote for an antique [1996 or older] OR one vote for a classic [1997 or newer] winning selections.

$15.00 per person for one car or multiple cars. No fee is collected until the day of the show.

Indoor restrooms and indoor food [there’s gotta be food!] and seating are provided.

Bristol Middle School teachers, with volunteer assistance from students, provide both breakfast sandwiches and donuts, and lunch selections including hot dogs, homemade sausage and pepper sandwiches, refreshments, and an assortment of candies and snacks.
Per Secondary Special Ed. teacher, Michelle Hager, “Hager Brownies” will be available!
Profit funds are split between student activities and the American Cancer Society.

This year, Bristol’s Lincoln Project presentation is the special feature.

The Lincoln Legacy Stop, both a unique art experience and an interactive tribute, celebrates Abraham Lincoln’s historic visit to Bristol en route to his 1861 inauguration. Seventy-five feet of railroad track where Lincoln stopped has been preserved for years, and a train platform, an authentic 33-star American flag, and several figures to represent the 1000 Bristol people who were there in 1861 when Lincoln stopped have been added.

The project founder, William Pezza of “Raising the Bar”, will make special presentations at 11AM and 2PM. By using a QR code, all are invited to learn how the historic project came about, and see the life-size figures come to life, telling the story.

The project on the 300 Block of Pond Street is adjacent to the car show, so attendees will be front and center to the presentations.

A free shuttle bus, running every 15 minutes, will stop at the HBD Car Show and make the rounds to the other HBD activities.

This bustling riverside community is well known for incorporating its past seamlessly into the fabric of its present.
