Allyssa Churchwell, a family and consumer sciences instructor, was recently honored as the second winner of the Independence Blue Cross (IBX) Teacher Honor Roll, a joint program with the Philadelphia Phillies celebrating exceptional educators.

In the district’s weekly Pennsbury On Point newsletter, it was announced Churchwell was chosen from thousands of entries as one of six teachers to be honored in the campaign, and her name will be permanently displayed at Citizens Bank Park.

She was recognized for her leadership and innovation in preparing students for real-world success, the district said.

Churchwell teaches high-demand courses in culinary skills, child development, and fashion. She also built an innovative mentorship program that allows her students to work directly with students in kindergarten through eighth-grade classrooms.

Beyond the classroom, Churchwell continues to mentor former students pursuing careers in education and offers guidance on topics ranging from student teaching placements to rรฉsumรฉs and interview preparation, the district said.

The award highlights Churchwell’s service to Pennsbury High School through committee work, union leadership, and her support for colleagues and students.

Many students have named her their “favorite teacher” in scholarship essays, according to the release.

As part of the recognition, Churchwell received a $500 gift card, IBX merchandise, and an exclusive on-field experience at the June 21 Phillies game.

The educator was honored in front of thousands of fans and attended batting practice, enjoyed a behind-the-scenes ballpark tour, and shared the evening with her family, friends, and Pennsbury High School administrator Marissa Ray in the IBX box.
